The Kit Kat and Dog Club

HI!  My name is Adrienne.  I started the Kit Kat Club many years ago when I came to the realization that I could not pass by another dog or cat in trouble without doing something more than praying for him or her.  It hasn't always been an easy decision to stand by, but I have never regretted making it.  In addition to making many wonderful fur friends along the way, I have several human friends that I never would have had if I were not involved in pet rescue.  These people are very special because they are compassionate and we seem to vibrate on the same wavelength.

One such excellent friend is La Nore who started her own rescue in Deary several years ago called Deary Dog Rescue.  La Nore and I help each other with the homeless pets that come our way.  We have placed many, many wonderful animals over the years and once drove to the animal shelter in Coeur d'Alene and took home seven black dogs who would have likely lost their lives if we hadn't. They were a motley crew to look at, nothing special in appearance, all mixed breeds, but as we got to know them, we discovered they each had something special to offer the right person.  It took considerable time, but eventually each one got a great home.

We sincerely believe that there should be no homeless animals and if we had pet friendly laws in our country to ban puppy mills, regulate dog and cat breeders and make spays and neuters free or affordable for everyone, we would go a long way toward ending the misery of homeless pets and those who, in the city and county facilities have to care for them and then end up putting many of them down.

Both Deary Dog Rescue and Kit Kat and Dog Club use an application to help get to know people interested in adopting a pet from one or the other rescue.  Sometimes people get interested in a dog or cat that would not necessarily work for them.  Through the application and telephone interview we hope to eliminate such problems, which are hard on the adopter when the pet must be returned and also hard on the pet.

We answer questions regarding the pet and offer an opportunity for the prospective adopter to meet with the pet they are interested in after a home check has been completed.

Adoption fees are based on the cost to our group of spays, neuters, vaccines and other medical expenses that arise from time to time and are comparable to our local shelter's fees.

We require that adopting "parents" of our companion animals take over full responsibility of their new pet, providing food, water, shelter, medical care and humane treatment.  We ask that they seek professional help for any behavior problems that might arise; that they never let their pet run free outside their own property unsupervised or near moving cars.  We require that the animal be returned to us in the event the adoption is unsuccessful.  We reserve the right to visit the pet after adoption.  This is usually a one-time brief follow-up.  We require that an I.D. tag be purchased immediately upon adoption.  And, finally, we believe that money is nice but that love is still the most important thing in the world and ask that the companion in question receive his or her fair share.

We seek to provide hope for the lost, abandoned and unwanted pets of Deary and, thereby, relieve some of the pressure on the Moscow Humane Society. When called upon, we offer help to pets outside of Deary that are in need. We also promote the philosophy of solving pet problems through training and behavior modification and the philosophy of "no-kill" through spays and neuters.  We take phone calls from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. seven days a week
