Artist Statement
Frankly, there is no point in making anything unless one is thoroughly attracted both to a subject and to its form. There are too many ideas and too little time for anything else.
What I love are the undulating hills where I live --endless, sensual and covered with wheat, lentils, and sometimes snow, they look like multicolor nudes snoozing over the earth; also magic, water, glass and interesting stories.
These then, are my subjects-- family, friends, books, wine and pieces of cloth; myself, light, shadow and places where we can skinny dip.
In tapestry, the image is the fabric-- without the former, the latter is merely a pile of yarn. The artist, then, creates order; she tells stories, builds images and captures moments in time in cloth even as they unfold.
Tapestry infiltrates my dreams, builds my biceps, thrills me to the bone and drives me to tears. When I was seven I turned scraps of yarn into a magic carpet. I am still at it.
