A highly scenic route with a good mix of rolling hills and flat ground. Mostly packed gravel with very light traffic. Wind is common.
Winter running on the Palouse - a short but beautiful time. Take a look at some scenes from a particularly nice winter day on the Palouse prairie, as viewed from the Old Pullman Highway, and see what you're missing by running in the Kibbie Dome.
Description | (mile) | (km)
Memorial Gym (near southwest entrance). Begin at the corner of Rayburn Street and entrance to the parking lot | Difficulty: Warm up for a very scenic and challenging run!
| Run uphill on Rayburn Street (south) to Perimeter Drive | The uphill start may get your heart pumping fast if you don't warm up first! | |||
| Run right downhill on Perimeter Drive to the Old Pullman Road | The sidewalk is a safe bet, although many runners run on the grassy path on the south side of Perimeter Drive | |||
| Run left on to the Old Pullman Road (the University Motor Pool will be on your right as you run up hill) | Watch out for traffic when you cross this intersection! | |||
| Continue on Old Pullman Road to: end of pavement | You'll run past a trailer park (on your left) | |||
| Telephone pole at the end of the plateau (second pole after the orange plastic GTE post on north side of road) | This is a good place to turn around once you continue and head down the hill, you're committed (don't look back!) | |||
| Turn-around point: first telephone pole past the fork at Old Pullman Road and Brown's Road | You can continue straight along and run to the top of the next hill (for total run of about 6.8-mile), or take a left on to Brown's road for a about a 13-mile round trip run back to the gym! | |||
Memorial Gym (at the corner of Rayburn Street and entrance to the parking lot) | Good job! |
