Benefits
and Costs of Membership
By
joining
the Latah County Historical Society, you will be a member of an organization
that has won national, regional, state, and local awards for its outstanding
work and leadership. You will belong to an organization that is committed
to bringing together children, youth, adults, and seniors to learn abut
the past and about each other. In addition to being a part of the effort to preserve, collect, and interpret our Latah County heritage, the benefits of membership include our journal, Latah Legacy, newsletters, free admission to the McConnell Mansion Museum, and discounts on events.
Individual, annual
memberships begin at only $20 a year; family memberships begin at $25,
and businesses can join at $35. And we hope you will help us expand our membership rolls.
- Tell a friend about us. Many people support our efforts but aren't aware they can become members.
- If you know someone who is interested in joining our organization, please forward their names to us; we'll be happy to send them an invitation to join. As an incentive, we are offering a $70 gift certificate to the Red Door restaurant in Mosocw to the person who recruits the most members.
For details, please call us at (208) 882-1004, stop by the Centennial Annex at 327 East Second Street in Moscow, or
email us.
Volunteering
can be a rewarding experience. By being a docent at the McConnell Mansion Museum,
you will learn about the history of the house and its furnishings, assist
visitors learn about the museum's historic rooms and exhibits, and meet
visitors of all ages from all over the world -- all carried out in
a beautiful historic setting. Docents normally volunteer one or two
afternoons each month, but we have many other types of volunteer opportunities. Volunteers
help with special projects like shelving artifacts, undertake on-going
tasks like registering new donations, and entering information into a
computer data base. If you enjoy working with children, serving refreshments,

- letters
- memoirs/reminiscences
- diaries/journals
- scrapbooks/photo albums
- genealogical information
- business records
- legal documents
- minutes of social, political, and community groups
- brochures and flyers
- photographs
- garments
- blankets/quilts
- tools
We particularly welcome the donation of family documentation. Your family's history is important to your community. You, no matter what your occupation, education, or social standing, have shared in the heritage of a certain place and time. Your personal records document this and can be a part of your community's collective memory. In the archives of the Latah County Historical Society, your historically significant documents will be housed in conditions that are environmentally controlled, and their use and handling will be overseen. The valuable information your records contain will be available to both to members of your family and to the scholarly public. When you place your family's personal records in an archives, you take an important step toward their preservation, and you assure that the memories they contain will be kept alive for future generations.
All donations are documented in accordance with professional standards, preserved, and stored in the appropriate environmental conditions and are available for research or examination. Because of storage limitations, the scope of our collections is limited to Latah County or to items having a strong connection to Latah County. One exception is the Education Collection which is designated to be used in a wide variety of educational and/or hands-on activities. If you have questions about making a donation to the historical society, please call us at 208-882-1002 or email us at
lchlibrary@latah.id.us.
Monetary contributions are always welcome, and they can be designated as unrestricted or for a special need, project, or for the historical society's endowment. The Latah County Historical Foundation manages our financial affairs, and the income from our investments is a significant part of our operating expenses. If you are considering a financial donation to the historical society, please call Director Mary Reed at 208-882-1002; Mary's email address is lchs@latah.id.us.
