The Kids Playhouse

July 8, 2000 - Framed in the 'forest' behind the pool.

No roof yet.

Looking back the other way.

The back of the house, Omni sweeping.

July 9, 2000 - The roof is on now.

It's all wired for lights, heater, and intercom.

Omni sweeping the porch.

The porch gets very dirty.

July 23, 2000 - Back from 2 wk vacation and we install windows.

Some of the wiring.  This area is for a GFCI outlet and a wall heater.

Another angle before the siding goes on.

Aug 5, 2000 - Siding starts to go on.

Aug 13, 2000 - All the siding is on, as well as fascia and trim around windows.

View through the front door opening.

Original plan was for 4" cedar trim, but we ripped it in half and used 2" trim, mitred corners, because it seemed to look more proportional.
You can also see outside electrical outlet - this was installed more for Mom and Dad's convenience than the kids - for yard tools and such.

Hey!  This thing's starting to really look like a little house!

Aug 27, 2000 - A lot has been accomplished the last two weekends.
All electrical (except the heater) is intalled.  The asphalt shingle roof is done.
And the door is hung.

Sage (age 6) is on the porch.  Notice the outside lights - these are on an X-10 controlled dimmer switch.  You can also see that the corner trim is complete here.

Sage motioning to the playhouse.  The rear of the house shows the pigtail plug coming out of the electrical box in the lower right.  This is where the house 'plugs in'.

Aug 28, 2000 - The kids break the house in with it's first sleep out.

This image is a little out of sequence. It shows the playhouse on Aug 19, 2000 when we were working on the roof.

Sept 9, 2000 - The original plans called for 2x2's for the porch rails but we decided to give it a little more detail by turning each of the 12 rails on the lathe.

Windows taped. Getting ready to paint. Porch rails are just loosely fitted right now, not nailed in.

Omni is helping her mom tape the windows.

Oct 8, 2000 - After putting two coats of primer on everything, the kids decided on a color scheme that has the body of the house bright yellow.

Porch rails sitting off to the side, ready to be painted.

Omni painting the door red.

Jade painting the trim blue.

Debra painting the porch posts green. (Hey Hon, I thought you threw away those pink sweats years ago!).

The finished playhouse.
