Ozzie's Lymphosarcoma Blog for Week of February 23, 2007 (chemo protocol week #24)

This week is scheduled to be an off-week, followed by the 25th week, the last week, of this Wisconsin lymphosarcoma protocol. We are crossing fingers (and toes) with the hope that Ozzie stays in remission.

This week has gone well; winter is still here, so walks are rare. We continued to be pleasantly surprised with Ozzie's hair growth; he looks so much better with thick hair growth. He doesn't seem to care, but the people noticed his thinning fur coat.

The week went well for Ozzie, though he seems to be slowly gaining weight; we went to the vet's late Thursday for the pre-chemo blood draw and weigh-in; Ozzie weighed 44.8 pounds, a gain of a little over a pound since the last weigh-in two weeks ago. I spoke to the vet about it; she cannot explain the weight gain. Ozzie gets the same amount of food (and treats) that he's been getting for several months. Now with some slightly nicer weather, we're even getting in a walk or two each week, so it's hard to understand why he's gaining weight. It could be related to his fur growth, maybe his metabolism is changing. Hopefully, Ozzie will "graduate" from the chemo protocol after tomorrow's last (!) chemo and maybe his body will change once again when he's been off chemo for a while. We also got another lesson today in finding a dog's lymph glands so we can monitor Ozzie once he's completed the chemo protocol.
