Ozzie's Lymphosarcoma Blog for Week of February 16, 2007 (chemo protocol week #23)

Ozzie is scheduled for an injection of Vincristine this week, what we hope will be his penultimate chemo injection. The blood test results from Thursday's blood draw were good; Ozzie's PMNs were 3900 and PCVs (red cells) were 38.3. The injection of Vincristine went well, though Ozzie had to do a throaty "grrrrr" to let us know he wasn't happy with the process. But after the injection and some liver pill treats, he sat still long enough for the vet to show me where Ozzie's lymph nodes were (his throat, his shoulders, and behind the knees of his back legs). Once Ozzie finishes this chemotherapy protocol, in two weeks we hope, we'll need to monitor Ozzie in case the lymphosarcoma returns (knock on wood, it doesn't reappear). By checking his lymph nodes twice a week, we can be on top of any changes in him. The weather was nice enough for a walk Friday afternoon, Ozzie's inactivity in the winter and the high calorie n/d canned dog food means he can gain weight easily.

Ozzie didn't seem to have any bad effects from the Vincristine; he didn't appear nauseous or have an upset tummy. The weather was nice enough for walks also on Saturday and Sunday, but then the weather turned windy and rainy.

Ozzie had a good week; his fur has been growing back in the last few weeks; his new fur looks more like "puppy" fur, it's curlier. In any case, it's nice to have the hair grow back.
