Ozzie's Lymphosarcoma Blog for Week of October 6, 2006 (chemo protocol week #6)

The results of Ozzie's blood draw taken yesterday (Thursday) were acceptable, but his PMNs were borderline, but good enough for him to have his chemo this week. If the number gets lower, he may have to skip chemo next week. And, he is still slightly anemic (his PCV was 36 when it should be 38 or more). We continue to give him the Lixotinic vitamin/mineral supplement in his first and last meals of the day. His weight was 38.5 pounds, so the planned weight gain is working. The vet looked at his skin, and it is much, much better. The chemo drug of the week is one he had his first week, the week he had diarrhea, so we will be careful to monitor him. The injection of Vincristine went well; Ozzie was again muzzled, but he held still for the brief injection.

I did bathe Ozzie with his oatmeal Epi-Soothe shampoo again on Saturday; his fur is still very nice, though it is a little thinner than it had been before chemo. Ozzie did not have diarrhea from the drug, so maybe the four small meals each day help keep his stomach from being upset. And for the two days after the chemo I continued to water down the areas he urinates in the yard, and I am careful about picking up his feces.

Ozzie is in good spirits, he likes to play with his toys and run around in the backyard. He is hungry at mealtime and hasn't lost his appetite in this process.

Thursday afternoon I gave Ozzie another bath with the Epi-Soothe shampoo; he still isn't happy getting bathed, but his fur and skin are very good. Later Thursday afternoon we went in for a blood test to see if he can take the next drug in the Wisconsin protocol series, Cytoxan.
