HOLDEN YOUTH WEEKEND

Tasting Jesus, to feed others.... the theme of the 2007 Holden Youth Weekend...helped high school students to understand their own role in reaching out to others with the gospel. Emmanuel youth Sarah Brooker, Rachel Brooker, Carolyn Brandt, Katie Campbell, Jillian Whiteman, Jack Fellman, Hayden Maxwell, and Alex Olsen participated in the weekend retreat. Listen to these young people share about their experiences:

Holden is always a fun experience. This year we were able to help out the entire village by clearing trails that are handicap accessible. It was a great feeling to know we were helping so many people to come later. We also got a chance to see 10 Mile Falls which was beautiful end to serving Holden. Thank you so much for making it possible for me and the other Emmanuel youth to have this amazing experience! - Sarah Brooker

I always have so much fun at Holden. The food is great and meeting new people who share similar beliefs and opinions a me is always a good good experience leading to a great time. The people at Holden are so nice and hospitable, and the service projects that we do there are a great way to give back to them. Thank you so much for paying for part of our trip!! - Carolyn Brandt

This is an experience I look forward to every year. It’s so much fun to get to know new people with the same thoughts as you. The food is A-M-A-Z-I-N-G! The service projects are always fun and satisfying. It want to thank the church for making it possible for us to go on this trip. We all leave with wonderful memories. -Rachel Brooker

Holden this year was so incredible. I have never been before, so I was blown away by the beauty of the area. The people there had nothing but kindness towards all of us. While I was doing the service project, I got inspired to work even harder because they had done so much for us. It was an awesome experience, and I would never pass up the opportunity to go again. -Jillian Whiteman

Out of all the Bible camps I have to say that this has been my favorite. I want to say thank you ver much for paying for half of the trip. I had a lot of fun. I can’t wait for next year to go. Both the car trip and boat ride were long and tiring, but well worth it to get to Holden and we couldn’t have done it without your help. Thank you. -Alex Olsen

The food, people, weather and scenery were fantastic and a one of a kind experience. I can’t wait to go back and thank you again for making it possible for me to go this time. - Katie Campbell

I haven’t been to Holden since I was 5 years old, and I remembered the girl I had a crush on and the smells of the wilderness... -Hayden Maxwell

Once again, my opportunity to visit Holden Village was an eye opening experience. I got to see how Christ is working throughout the ELCA Lutheran Church in our fellow synod parishes. Nothing is more inspiring than the beauty surrounding Holden, and the fact that it is maintained and supported almost exclusively by volunteer work! I would like to thank the congregation or another wonderful opportunity to visit this truly magical and spiritual place – it will always leave a place in my heart. - Jack Fellman

I want to echo the remarks of these incredible Emmanuel youth! Thank you for your continued support of the Youth and Family Ministry program which helps our young people participate in faith growing, life giving and joyful experiences such as this. A word of thanks to Kim Campbell. With out parent chaperones, we wouldn’t be able to offer so many opportunities to our youth. Kim’s energy, thoughtful presence and guidance was invaluable! Her quick wit and humor. . . priceless!! -Pastor Dawna
