Letter From James and Leishia Hunter Thornhill
To: Adam and Letitia Hunter Turner
Written in the 1870's
I drop you you a few lines to tell you we are all well except myself.
I am in bad health and have been for a long time... though hoping when
these few lines come to hand they will find you all in good health.
Lucy Ann received a letter from Hobbes and they said you were confined
to your bed. I was sorry to hear it though. Will received a letter from Hobbes
the other day that said you were all well. I am glad to hear that because it is
bad to be in bad health. I think if you would come up here and visit it would
help you. I would go home with you. I would like to see you all again in this life
and if we never meet on earth I hope to see you in the hereafter.
I was sorry to hear of the death of Sophronia. My poor girl... she paid the debt.
I hope she has gone to rest.
Will was here yesterday. He is well. He is working at night at thirteen dollars
a month. Times are hard and money is scarce... a man can barely hire at all.
Sister Lydia's old man is dead. The kin are all well in Missouri. The last of March,
Lucy Ann got a letter from Louisa's boy. He said they were all well.
Tell all of the children howdy. Pleae tell them to write to me. I must bring my
short letter to a close. Write as soon as you can... do not delay.
Leishia and James
