Tread Lightly Press is pleased to announce the release of Mountain Bike Guide To Hog Heaven: Moscow Mt, North-South Area, McCroskey State Park, by Jim LaFortune. For more information, contact the author at lakook@moscow.com.

All three areas covered by the guide are within one hour drive from Moscow and Pullman. In addition, mountain bikers from Spokane and Coeur d'Alene can access McCroskey Park in about an hour. Current trail conditions and route changes due to logging are available.

Riders visiting the area for the first time always note the smoothness of the trails when compared with their home turf. Mountain bikers have also encountered an extraordinary variety of species on the trails, including moose, elk, deer, bear, bobcat and mountain lion, as well as motorcycle, horse and hiker. Locals and visitors of all species should be prepared to share the trail resource in good humor. Lycra-clad bikers, for example, tend to dress like neon aliens, so a polite hello issued at slow speed creates an atmosphere where all trail users feel at home. The guide book is rife with juicy tidbits that will help to keep trail conflicts to a minimum. The Moscow Area Mountain Bike Association (MAMBA) is the primary trails access organization in our region.

The book includes original topographic maps and detailed descriptions of how to get to the trail heads of the 16 rides, as well as ratings for beginner, intermediate and expert bikers. The guide also contains dozens of options for making the rides shorter or longer.

The compact size, 8.5 by 3.7 inches, makes it handy to carry in a fanny pack and the coil binding allows it to remain open to the current ride. Mountain Bike Guide To Hog Heaven is available now in bike shops and bookstores throughout area and is priced at $10, or you may write me for details on ordering.

Remember that current riding conditions and route changes due to trail construction or logging are available.
